Cranleigh seeks to appoint, for September 2024, a strong honours graduate to teach Chemistry. The successful candidate will teach classes in Chemistry from a selection of years 9 to 12 in a lively, ambitious and successful Department, as well as taking a full part in the life of this busy and friendly boarding school.  There may be the opportunity for some A-level teaching depending on experience.

Cranleigh is a leading fully co-educational independent boarding and day Senior School consisting of around 680 girls and boys of 13–18 years of age. There is also a Preparatory School in close proximity.  Cranleigh aspires to be a beacon of excellence in learning and teaching and is committed to the continuing professional development of all employees.

We are looking for an energetic character who can effectively communicate their enthusiasm for Chemistry and bring some humour as well as subject knowledge with them. The successful candidate will have an excellent knowledge of, and a real enthusiasm for Chemistry and is likely to hold a good honours degree in Chemistry (or related subject). They will be self-motivated and will relish the challenge presented by being part of a forward-thinking Department. A commitment to students, the department and the wider life of the School, plus a firm grasp of curricular developments are important as are empathy, being well-organised, a sense of humour and the ability to enhance the department’s delivery and development of Chemistry.

The successful candidate will be expected to get involved in all aspects of this busy boarding school (which would normally include one evening duty per week), including acting as a tutor to a group of students within a Boarding House and some delivery of the School’s PSHE programme. All teachers are expected to contribute to the School’s co-curricular programme and co-curricular activities alongside their academic responsibilities.

Accommodation is available with the post and we offer a generous benefits package.

This is, initially, a fixed term appointment for one year from September 2024 and comes with a salary of circa £18,000. Accommodation and all meals in term-time are provided.

Please read the ‘Recruitment Pack’ to be found below, to gain an impression of the ethos to which it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss any aspect of the post informally, please contact Ed Peerless, Head of Chemistry by email in the first instance: ejep@cranleigh.org.
